The #51fiver is back in 2024. After yet another sell out year in 2023, we are excited to go again at our awesome Standard Distance Triathlon event held at Lake 32 of the Cotswold Water Park.

The race sells out year on year, so enter early to ensure your place for 2024 on one of the fastest standard distance courses in the UK..! We will also after a successful first year be offering an Aquabike option at this event.

Race Summary

The event starts as always with a 1500mtr swim in the famously clear waters of lake 32 and consists of a 1 lap swim. It is then out of the swim ramp and in to the nearby transition.

It is then out on to the fast, flat bike course of 40k. The route takes in some of the most picturesque areas and villages of the Cotswold including Ewen, Kemble, Crudwell, Charlton, Minety and Ashton Keynes. The road surfaces in the area are very good, and there are long stretches of the course to really open up the taps and go for it.

After a quick dash back in to transition it is out on to the 1 lap run of the local area. The course is pancake flat and is all on tarmac so is super fast and is a big hit with all of our competitors.

All these things combine to make this the perfect venue for a Triathlon and mean the #51fiver Cotswold Standard Distance Triathlon is the ideal event for beginners, the experienced athlete and those looking for a standard distance PB.

Medals

Here at DB Max we are trying to reduce the amount of waste we create, reduce our carbon footprint and to make our events affordable for all. For the Lightning Bolt Fast 10k, we have taken the decision to make the medals optional.

So we are offering runners the option to purchase a medal when registering, but alternatively to enter at a lower price, without a medal. This ensures we can give the cheapest entry price possible, but also covers all options and keep those runners who love a medal happy too.

We hope you appreciate this new optional service as we address environmental and waste concerns.

Pacers

The #dbmaxpaceteam will be on hand to help guide you to your goals and PB's. We have pacers from 38 to 75 minutes. Pacers are at 38/40/42/45/48/50/52/55/58/60/62/65/70 minutes.

Time Limits

We expect participants to have finished their 10k in no more than 1 hour 15 minutes. After this time limit marshals will be removed form course and you will be expected to make your own way back to the finish. Signs will remain out until the final finisher.

Horses and Horse Riders

As we are sure you are aware, the Lightning Bolt 10k takes place in a rural area. In this area, there are many horses and horse riders. We do ask that if you come across a horse and rider whilst out running, that you follow these simple pieces of advice.

If approaching from behind, call out to the rider so the horse and rider are aware you are there. Calling 'Runner behind' is perfect. Should the horse be startled, stop running and wait for the rider to signal it is safe for you to pass. Remember, please pass as wide as possible and do not come up directly behind a horse and rider.

If there is a passing place, such as a drive or layby the horse rider can get to, wait for them to get to safety and signal for you to pass. Communicate politely with each other.

Remove any bright, or flapping garments, such as flags or coats around the waist. Tuck these out of the way when passing. Pass the horse and rider, in single file, wide and slowly, avoiding any sudden movements.

If approaching from the front, call out to the rider so the horse and rider are aware you are there. Calling 'Runner approaching' is great. Slow down and ask if it's OK to continue. Should the horse be startled, stop. Wait for the rider to signal it's safe to continue.

Being higher up on a horse, there are factors to consider like clarity of hearing with the elements, the sounds of the hooves and horses can not see immediately behind them. Give plenty of room to avoid kicking. Should you be unsure of what to do, stop. Communicate with the rider, ask what you can do to help.

Club Entry

If you would like to make the Lightning Bolt Fast 10k a club race, please contact us for more details. Phone James on 07929 059 796 or email james@icompete.co.uk to register your interest.

TITAN BRECON MIDDLE DISTANCE TRIATHLON

  • Merthyr Road Tredegar, Wales, NP22 3AY United Kingdom (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Titan Brecon Middle Distance Triathlon is back for 2024, and we are celebrating the 10th year of Titan... Possibly the most Iconic Middle Distance Triathlon on the UK Calendar which is not to be missed in 2024! And, we have added an Aquabike option for the event, so if running is not your bag you can still #BecomeaTitan.

Race Summary

A superb venue in the Welsh Brecon Beacons, with a beautiful lake swim, an ‘epic’ bike course and a traffic-free park-based run.

The event is located at the beautiful Parc Bryn Bach on the edge of the Brecon Beacons in Wales, and is easily accessible from South Wales, Bristol, Birmingham, London and the South West. This all adds up to making Titan Brecon the ‘must do’ middle distance triathlon on the British events calendar.

Titan Brecon Middle Distance Triathlon starts with a 1.2 mile one-lap swim and takes place in the park lake, fed by the waters of the Black Mountains in Wales.

The 60-mile bike course has now built a following of fans and ‘epic’ is the word! The quiet roads have excellent riding surfaces and the route tours the beautiful Brecon Moors before culminating with a sustained climb back to T2.

The final 13.1 mile run is a three-lap route around the lake and park – so it’s great for spectators!

Registration and Briefing Times

Registration will be open from 16:00 to 20:00 on Friday 5th July and there will be a short period of registration on the Saturday morning from 05:15 to 06:00.

Feed Stations

There will be two feed stations on the bike route and two per lap on the run route. i-Compete will be providing nutrition bars along with energy drinks, water, sweets and more. If you have a particular request for feed station treats give us a shout – you never know….

Equipment

There are 4 items you must bring with you to Titan Brecon. When you arrive at transition you must have the following:

  • A working front light, attached to your bike (with fresh batteries)

  • A working rear light attached to your bike (with fresh batteries)

  • An item of reflective clothing (Yellow or bright clothing is not reflective, your item of clothing must be reflective).

  • A jacket to wear on the bike in case it is cold on race morning (races have started in temperatures as low as 6 degrees).

The reason for these rules is due to the weather conditions that could be faced on race day. The Brecons very much have their own micro-climate, and even in the height of summer it can be cold, dark, wet and misty. There will be no exceptions made to these rules, and if you do not have these 4 items of equipment, you will not be permitted to race. Please also note that we will be selling front and rear lights at registration for a very reasonable price.

Medals

Here at i-Compete we are trying to reduce the amount of waste we create, reduce our carbon footprint and to make our events affordable for all.

Pacers

The #icompetepaceteam will be on hand to help guide you to your goals and PB's.
